Confessions of a PhD student

Life is what happens in between.

About December 26, 2008

Hi, my name is Sarah Theissen and I was born May 15th 1979 in Geilenkirchen, Germany. I passed a vocational education at the Research Center in Juelich, Germany to become a research assistant in Biology. I worked for a few years in Research as well as Sales before moving to Cork, Ireland in 2004 where I became a member of the Cell Biology Lab at University College Cork. My research topic was cancer research, mainly investigation of the IGF-1 signaling pathway. During my 3 years at UCC I decided to sign up for a night-time postgraduate course at Cork Institute of Technology. In 2007 I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Biosciences (Hons). In April 2007 I moved back to Germany to join the group Microenvironment of Tumour Cell Invasion at the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg. I will be starting a PhD in Endocrine Oncology in the Surgery Department at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Dublin in January 2009 where I will be involved in Breast Cancer Research.

Apart from all the sciency stuff, I am very much interested in good movies and music and have a passion for photography. Please visit my flickr site for my photos.
